Iphone in DRU mode, Restore unsuccessful

Hi All,

This is Maulik. I am newbie here.

I have a typical problem

I just got a used apple iphone 2g - 8gb version 2.0

The seller had unlocked/jailbreaked it but he was not sure about unlocking. when i tried to insert the sim, it said connect to itunes as new sim is detected.

I tried getting it to work by going to neuter and enabling unlock option, but was not successful

i tried to do it myself by following the steps given on iclarified but when i switch it to DRU mode and try to restore using ITunes, there is an unknown error saying the restore is not complete

Moreover, as it is not complete, the phone is still in DRU mode so everytime i try to start it, it just shows to connect to itunes.

Can anybody help. how can i switch to normal mode from dru mode and how can i successfully unlock it.

Should i switch to factory settings? and try unlocking again?

Sorry for long post, but need to explain in detail so you all can help me with solution.
