    Default From Start to Finish!

    Hey all -

I'm a new member on the forums, and have been lurking to see if it is feasible to get an iphone working on the T-Mobile network. After reading quite a few threads, I decided to go ahead and buy a 1st Generation Iphone. I realize that are ALOT of resources and informative posts on this site, but honestly I have no idea which ones to follow. I'm basically looking for a specific instruction in my case, and it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm great with PC stuff, but don't know much about apple products.

    Here's my setup:
    • I'm on a PC
    • I have a first generation, stock, 4gb Iphone.
    • I need to put it on the Tmobile network, and would like to get internet working.
    • Here is the phone I bought: eBay Link

The phone has yet to arrive, so I figured I would post in advance so I know what to do. Curious about things like "Can I update?" "What do I update to?" etc. Thanks in advance for all that help, and if anyone ever has any PC problems I'd be more than willing to help. Looking forward to your answers.

    -Evan

    Anyone? Help is greatly appreciated!

You will want to JAILBREAK and UNLOCK your iPhone to use on Tmobile. ATT or otehr contract carrier users may jailbreak only. Jailbreak means to gain access to the iPhone's file system in order to apply custom graphics non appstore applications. Unlock means to use the phone on a non contract GSM carrier like T-Mobile.

The questions regarding updating, is essentially driven by the fact that when Apple releases a new firmware it sometimes updates what is called the baseband (the mobile phone part). That is what needs to be unlocked. If the baseband gets updated, then a new unlock method needs to be discovered. Thus, the recommendation for people with unlocked phones is to wait to update until an unlock is assured.

You are wise to begin researching before you mess with the phone. Search first, ask questions and there are loads of helpful and knowledgeable people here to help.

Good luck and welcome to the world of iPhone modding.

Thanks guys! Currently I've got it unlocked and jailbroken through WinPwn, now I'm just trying to get the 5.99 internet working. No luck so far.
