I noticed that the firmware is different from the tutorial:

What do I need to do in order to change this?

    If I need to yes..

this is what i posted on the hackint0sh fourms:
    I hope this explains enough..

My friend bought an iPhone yesterday (it had 1.1.1 on it originally out of the box) and she asked me to unlock it for her because I have an unlocked phone (1.0.2) The process of unlocking my phone took about 6min if you don't count the time you have to wait for things to flash. So I figured this would be a piece of cake... Boy was I wrong..
So this is what I've done..

I downgraded the firmware to 1.0.2 but the baseband firmware is still showing up as 4.0.

I've tried a bunch of different options like reviginizing the phone but got stuck at the end of the terminal when it indicated that the bbupdater failed to update:

    this was the exact message:
    ....
    ProgressUpdated: 99
    ProgressUpdated: 100
    ProcessDetailUpdated: Sending end-pack.
ProcessOutlineUpdated: Process time was 2 min 3 sec.
Error: Failed to download .FLS: Could not verify downloaded image.
    Done
    # ./bbupdater -v
    Resetting target...
    pinging the baseband...
    issuing +xgendata...
    firmware: DEV_ICE_MODEM_04.01.13_G
    eep version: EEP_VERSION:207
    eep revision: EEP_REVISION:7
    bootloader: BOOTLOADER_VERSION:3.9_M3S2
    Done

I need to know where to go from here. Is there another solution to unlock the phone?

I've tried the old way based off of 1.0.2 tutorials and at the end received the message on the phone that "the sim is incorrect".

I'm not sure what to do next, I do not want to downgrade the baseband because I have read that If anything went wrong I could lose the wifi etc.

If I were to update back to 1.1.1 and try the new tutorials would that brick the phone?

Can someone please point me in the right direction? It is my friends phone and she would like it unlocked by her birthday which is tomorrow! Talk about pressure!

    Thanks!

You need to make sure that the secpack file you are using doesn't have the .bin extension on it. Even if you remove it it'll still be there so be careful and remove the HIDDEN EXTENSION OF .BIN FROM YOUR SECPACK. Once this is done then it will work.

Sashok, how did you downgrade the firmware. did you do it through itunes with the option+restore method? If yes and you didn't do anything else yet. and this is important that you didn't do anything else yet. then you could go through this process and it will work.

Use independence 1.2.4 or higher and follow the help section on independence it is written well and should let you get to the point where you could unlock with anysim 1.1.0.

I used the Virginize pack and used all that was in there. At one point in the tutorial I was (In Terminal entered commands and this file appeared after the commands in cyberduck) told to save seczone.backup just in case So i'm not sure how I would change the secpack information.
    Can you explain?

with all ther different methods out there right now, you need to stick to one method and follow that to a tea. I looked over PF guides and it is really precise with picts and all so i would use that method.

as far as the backing up of the seczones. the file get written into the directory you ran the norz. so look in there and cyber duck it back to your comp. i don't know why i need to save it but i did just in case for future stuff i guess.

    Thanks Guys,
I ended up giving up on the whole virginizing the phone and I upgraded back to 1.1.1 (since I still had a baseband firmware of 4.0 which = 1.1.1) and then followed the independence guide along with the modmyi guides to unlock the phone. It worked perfectly! I now have an unlocked phone

    Thanks Again!

could you please explain exactly what you did...

This is what I am thinking from what you mentioned

    Skipped all terminal tasks
    skipped all virginizing tasks

    1) You simply upgraded the phone to 1.1.1

    2) activated that phone (using jailbreak)

    3) Installed SSH

    4) And then unlocked the phone (using the the details mentioned in the guide)

    Is this right ???
