Came to this forum because you guys are the best at providing information.
My Problem: Had a 64 gb iPhone 4s backed up on my computer hard drive. Now I come home with my new iPhone 5s and try to restore the backup. Obviously gives me the error " Cant restore because theres not enough room on your iPhone 5s".
I no longer have my 4s in hand, is there any way around it? Any 3rd party softwares that can let me dig into the back up and take things out. What would you do? Looking forward to your responses thanks!

There are several software's that can do this. Try iBackupBot, it's what I have used in the past.

A program called Backuptrans iTunes Backup Extractor lets you restore photos, videos, text messages, contacts, notes, bookmarks etc from iPhone 4S backup to your new iPhone 5S. Try it out.

Why don't you setup as new and then sync back your data either using iTunes or ICloud .

I am having the same issue. Lost all contact info. All my Aps are there but all the data/progress is missing. When I plug my iphone into the usb fto synch up with my itunes on the computer a message comes up and says "enter the password to unlock your iphone backup file". This is very frustrating
