Need help solving a serious map app issue

I had a iphone 4 with ios 5.1 on it with endicott topo maps.
Thousands of waypoints and maps for fieldwork on there.
3yrs of work

Just bought iphone 4s with ios6 on it
Backed up the 4 , then put all info on my 4s
Upon start up , topo maps crashes....all maps and flags gone!!!
Seems to be a common problem....happening to many with no fix from developer.

How to fix and retrieve my map info???
I DO have my old iphone 4 with all map data on intact.
I never wiped it clean.

question: can i somehow syn my old phone on my computer and downgrade my 4S to ios 5.1 and get maps to work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not possible to downgrade the 4s unless it had been previously jailbroken.
