Thread: Verizon iPhone 4s Unlocked question

Default Verizon iPhone 4s Unlocked question
Hi so i went to the verizon store and asked for them to "unlock" my 4s, with me knowing that it only works for oversea sim cards. I've been reading the unlock thread where you call into verizon to have them unlock your phone, and i remember it saying that, you shouldn't get a unlock message in itunes because it isn't a factory unlock. To my surprise as i was restoring to 5.1.1. Upon setup, i was greeted with a message that said my phone was unlocked.

Is this a false message? I kinda want to try putting a att sim card into my phone, but i don't have one at the moment.
Keep in mind this is a verizon 4s. Can someone assure me. Thanks.

Seems to me there is no doubt your phone is now officially unlocked.

So it should be unlocked as in usa carriers are able to be used on it? I really want to try a ATT sim card but i won't get the chance to borrow my friends until a bit. Also would me restoring to ios6 kill the unlock? As i'm going to get ios6 and see if i can still get that msg in itunes again

Once phone is officially unlocked, it will always be unlocked no matter if you upgrade the OS or not.

    No problem, glad to help.
Any pre-paid sim card will work also.

So i got a Att sim card and i put it in and it said sim not supported, so i guess my phone isn't truely factory unlocked. Well so much for it being unlocked for all carriers. Oh well. :< Not going to lose sleep over it as i originally expected it to be unlocked only for overseas :>
