How to update my jailbroken iPhone to iOS 5

Ok.. I worked throgh redsnow.. now my iphone is on 5.1.1!!
So I have to jailbreak now

When I click on Jailbreak redsnow says:

This device can be jailbroken using either the DFU ramdisk method or the backup/restore method.

backup/restore method is faster and easier, it's the same method used by absinthe

Will I still be able to backup using iTunes later and get back all my stuff?

Now can u tell me how to backup in iTunes to get me stuff back?

First make sure cydia is working fine. Then just plug into itunes, you should get the same option you got earlier, to set up as new or restore from backup. Choose the option to restore from backup making sure it is your backup that you did when you were on 4.2.8.

I restored from backup using my wife's computer because itunes on my computer was outdated and my wife had the latest version
so it took about 20 min and now my phone has my emails, contacts, texts, but cydia is gone and none of my apps are there

If you dont use the backup on the same computer that all your apps and music are on then it isnt going to put your apps back for you. Update itunes on your computer then restore your backup there.

Very odd that cydia is gone. Are you sure it didnt just move to a different page or something? You may want to restore to 5.1.1 again using redsnow, then first restore your backup on your computer. Then use redsnow to jailbreak and install cydia (after all your stuff is there), this time use the ramdisk method to jailbreak.

lol, thought that may be the case. Just go to your computer then, plug into itunes and right click on your device, choose restore from backup there.

hey Simon, once I plug my phone to my computer with updated iTunes do I have to restore to backup again? Or can I manually put my apps/music back?

You can manually add them back if you want.

I plugged into iTunes now and it's syncing my apps automatically... but every single app Fails to install
