He has a CDMA iPhone. He doesn't require a unlock.

    @thiagoddr
Since you have 5.1.1 shsh use redsnow 0.9.15b3 and make a custom stitched 5.1.1 firmware. Then enter pwned DFU and restore to that stitched 5.1.1 firmware in iTunes.

Oh, and make sure to backup your phone in iTunes first so you can restore all your stuff after.
And there is no need to go to 6.0.1 first. You can go directly to 5.1.1.

    Simon,

    Thank you very much.
I thought I had to go to 6.0.1 to upgrade my baseband. Benny posted that he had problems with his signal by upgrading directly to 5.1.1.

How do I make a custom stitched 5.1.1 firmware?

Sorry, yes. That is correct. Forgot about your CDMA baseband issue. So go to 6.0.1 first to do that (make sure your backup is done before this first, you don't want a backup from 6.0.1)

Open redsnow, click extras, then choose shsh. You should see option to stich firmware there. You point redsnow to a 5.1.1 shsh for your device first. Then point it to your 5.1.1 shsh and let it make the firmware. Then use redsnow to enter pwned DFU. Then restore to that 5.1.1 firmware you made.

So basically the first thing I should do is to backup on iTunes under 4.2.8. Then restore. Should I upgrade to 6.0.1 on iTunes or redsnow?
I only use redsnow once I have already upgraded to 6.0.1 on iTunes?

    Sorry for the dumb questions.

Yes, backup on 4.2.8 first. Then restore to 6.0.1 in itunes. Then do what I said above with redsnow.

After you get to 5.1.1 you can restore your backup to your phone to get all your stuff back. SHSH explanation can be found in my sig, you will need them for this to work.

    One more thing,

Where do I download the 5.1.1 firmware and redsnow?

    Hey Simon,

I'm ready to start this process but I wanna make sure I don't **** it up.
I was looking at early posts between you and Benny and he says:
"What I've found in my research is you should use redsnow to upgrade. You do Not use cydia. You 1st must DL tiny umbrella to save your SHSH blobs. I would save both to cydia and local ( on your PC)."

My question is: do I need tiny umbrella at all during this process?

No, you dont need tiny umbrella. Redsnow can download your shsh for you.

Once I upgrade my iphone to 6.0.1 in itunes it will no longer be jailbroken right?
Do I need to jailbreak it on 6.0.1 in order to stitch my shsh file on redsnow?

How is redsnow gonna be able to find my shsh blobs when I'm on 6.0.1 without cydia?

Man, I really appreciate all the assistance and again sorry for so many questions.

redsnow will download your required shsh from cydia's server.

but what I'm not understanding is how redsnow will download the shsh file if after I upgrade to 6.0.1 when I won't have cydia anymore

cydia's server is online. It has nothing to do with what is on your device. You could download it now and make the custom stitched 5.1.1 firmware if you want.
