Flash to Cricket?
Just want to confirm that it may be possible to flash a verizon iphone to cricket.

Does Cricket have the iPhone 4? I couldn't find any mention of it.
If they do not, there is no way to "flash" to cricket, since there are no iPhone specific files for that carrier yet, so I would imagine No.

Yes it will be possible but I dont see the dev team releasing something to allow it

Also adding to the problem is that the iPhone doesn't have CDMA 1700MHz support, so there might be places that the iPhone would be roaming on another carrier. I know there's quite a few metros Cricket has only a 1700MHZ network, and not all of Cricket's plans offer free roaming.Member of the hackint0sh forums.

@sb I dont know, I can see someone creating an unlock for the verizon iPhone to be used on cricket just to prove it can be done.

Oh it can be done for sure. The way they would have to do it would be against federal laws according to MuscleNerd
02-10-2011, 11:25 PM #8
I didn't think there was a reason it couldn't done. Was there an explanation of how or just a statement that it would break federal law?

I will try to find the statement about it

Cricket and MetroPCS allow foreign MEIDs to be added to their inventory. It's possible MuscleNerd either isn't familiar with them (because they are smaller, regional carriers) or confused them with Sprint (which does not allow foreign MEIDs).

pytey posted a statement along these lines:
An unlock on a CDMA phone in the United States would require an ESN/MEID from another CDMA phone with an active phone number. This is called cloning and breaks telecom law in the US, specifically the Wireless Telephone Protection Act of 1998I write Mac only tutorials for the iPhone and own every model. My iPhones run on the following SIMs/networks: AT&T, GoPhone, H2O, O2, SimpleMobile, T-Mobile and Verizon.

I saw a post about this today, apparently Cricket is actually helping people with jailbroken Verizon Iphones get this

I don't doubt it can be done. Im curious as well as to what the legalities are, Stealth.

Ah I skimmed over that. Thanks for that.
It makes sense.

So I dont know how they would offer this legally.

Perhaps you can help me understand stealth. What's the difference of flashing other Verizon phones to cricket which cricket does do, versus doing so with the iPhone? Does the thing you quoted earlier only apply recently or do the other phones just not count because they're not as popular as the iPhone?

I dont know a lot about CDMA flashing to be honest. From what I am reading, there are other ways to flash that are legal. I will have to research more.

This is interesting. I might do some research myself.
