From what I've read, the prices will be the same at AT&T. 16GB for $199, 32GB for $299...

Are you switching carriers or just adding to the collection?

I'm adding to the collection once it gets jailbroken

How is it worth switching to it, when the iPhone 5 (or whatever) comes out in 6 months?

I may consider if Apple ever produces one that would be GSM/CDMA LTE. I don't like the idea of paying for a device that is stuck to a carrier. At least with my GSM iPhone, I am able to change carriers - even pay as you go.

How is the discount different than AT&T every 2 years?

AT&T also gives an extra $100 discount (on top of other discounts) on all phones except the iPhone. The subsidized rate on the iPhone is already too high for them. I imagine Verizon will do something similar.

I have been waiting for one and will, depending on the rate plans.

I've gotten a discount every year with AT&T. Been with them since the first iphone and I always get the full subsidized price when the new iphone comes out. I doubt Verizon is going to do that so no reason to switch.

I'm pretty sure all carriers have a price that they advertise the the phone at ($199 for 16GB iPhone 4) but the actually price is eitehr $50 or $100 more, and you get a mail-in rebate with the phone. At least that's how it worked when I got a phone from Verizon exactly 2 years ago next month Which makes me eligible for an upgrade!

I'll be making the smart move and waiting for iPhone 5 though. I just don't think it's worth it to spend $200 on a phone that will be basically obsolete in 5 months. That's how Apple works, and we all know it. You're on the bleeding edge of technology.. until they release the refresh a year later.

Actually, iPhone on AT&T has never had a mail in rebate or anything. The price they advertise is what you pay.

Wouldn't it be smarter to wait and get an iPhone 5 in 4-5 months? I'm fine with my 3GS on T-Mobile for now even though I've been wanting to switch to Verizon for the longest time...

I would think so, except that Apple may release the CDMA iPhone on a different timetable (Dec/Jan) each year as they require a different manufacturing process and it could load balance the demand of Apple products through the year. I'm not saying they will... but I am saying that it wouldn't surprise me and might even be the smart thing to do.
