Move ipod to another pc

I've a 2g iphone and an ipod touch. Have been using both on the same computer, but now would like to move the ipod touch to a different pc without doing the restore process all over again.
I understand that copying the itunes .xml and .itl files will do the trick. Question is how do i know which .xml/.itl file is for the ipod touch.

Just a guess, but I would say.....
Update JUST the ipod touch and choose the .xml and .itl files that have the same date as the day you updated it.
