Create Unlimited Length Ringtones
Here is how to use full length songs as ringtones, fully bypassing the 30 second from iTunes. To start you have to have a jailbroken iPhone running the 2.2 firmware. Next you need to enable ssh access via OpenSSH installed through Cydia. Once thats up and running download and install WinSCP onto you computer.First we need to create a ringtone. Open up the desired song in iTunes, right click it and select "Create AAC Version".
Once its done converting right click on the new version and select "Show In Windows Explorer".
Rename the song type from ".m4a" to ".m4r".
Make sure your iPhone is connected to the same network as you computer. Startup WinSCP that you just installed. Click on the Session tab. Enter the phone's IP address. The user name is root and the password is either "dottie" or "alpine" (no quotation marks).
A dialog box will popup asking you if you want to accept the RSA key from the iPhone. Click Yes.
An explorer window should open. In the right pane navigate up one level, then to "stash", the to "Ringtones.XXXXX".
Once there simply drag and drop your new ringtone into the folder. Once it's done copying go to Settings on your phone, click Sounds, then Ringtone and there it is.

Nice tip, thanks! I'll give it a try.
EDIT: How come the ones I created using iRinger and already transferred to iTunes is not in /private/var/stash/Ringtones.XXXXX? It's only showing the default onesLast edited by Lord Farkward; 12-01-2008 at 06:48 AM.

hmm....
I created a ringtone with iRinger and synced it. Looks like it puts the iRinger ones in
It also renames them to a four or five letter/number name.Code:/private/var/Media/iTunes_Control/Ringtones
Goodluck!

Thanks dude for a great help. I just can not say how much you did it for me. I have some songs to make ringtones but I could not do it because of limited timings. Thanks once again.

Not to rain on your parade or nothing but phones only ring for 30 seconds, 40 seconds MAX. This would work for SMS tones but wouldn't it be annoying? Does it stop once you open a message?

Im not sure if it stops playing after you open a SMS. I got rid of my iPhone a couple months ago. Try asking one of the guys that posted on here.
Good luck!

Yes it plays even when you receive SMS or MMS. You can set it as SMS tones. This is a great system by which you can set it to play at any service.
