12-09-2013, 03:40 PM #1What's the newest untethered jailbreak for iOS?
I gave my daughter my old iPhone 4 and told her NOT to update it......but she did.
Currently it's running 7.0.2 which apparently doesn't have any jailbreak? So I'd like to know from the people who deal with this everyday and stay up to date, what version of iOS is currently the highest/newest untethered jailbreak?
One thing that MAY be in my favor is that I have been jailbreaking this phone since I've owned it so I may have an older SHSH blob saved somewhere if that's of any use.

Newest untethered firmware is 6.1.2. You can jailbreak 7.0.2, but tethered (with unofficial tools and a dearth of tweak support).
One warning on SHSH blobs: if you find you do have them, there's still one more hurdle to clear. Verify those blobs with iFaith for Windows and make sure they're valid and usable. Unfortunately, a bad glitch within Cydia etc. made a lot of SHSH blobs saved for iOS 6.x unusable for restores... so be careful.

so is there a way to go back to 6.1.2? I'm not sure if there is a blob for that.
Could someone refresh my memory as to how to check for existing blobs and/or point me to some form of tutorial to downgrade my iOS version?

There is a tethered JB for this phone up to version 7.0.4
Google and YouTube have hundreds of videos/tutorials on this too.

thanks doc, I have up to 5.1.1r1 available. This means I can downgrade iOS to 5.1, then would I be able to upgrade to 6.1.3 ?
Orby, also thanks, I don't know how but I completely missed the link to iFaith in your post.

If you don't have viable blobs for 6.1.3, then you can't install it. Doesn't matter if you are going up or down.
Not sure why you want to go to that firmware, as there isn't an untethered JB available for it.

can I go back to 5.1 ? I'm just trying to get it re-jailbroken so I can backup some data.

If that's the case, you can go to 7.0.4 and use the tethered RageBreak to JB.
You may be able to get back to 5.1.1 by using redsnow but I can't remember if you can only do that if you are already on 5.1.1

ok, I guess I'll try a tethered JB.
I don't fully understand how tethering works though. If I JB the phone on my computer, does that mean it will only start up jailbroken if it's tethered to MY computer, or would any computer do it?
What happens if the phone shuts off/dies, will it start back up, just not jailbroken?

It'll start okay, just all the jailbreak related tweaks / cydia / etc won't work and will likely crash if you try to use them

So......RageBreak is out, I don't own a Mac.

It is out for windows too.
I have one of my old iph4's on 7.0.4 jailbroken with RageBreak and can attest that very few tweaks work. If you want to theme, you have to do it by manually replacing the actual files.

is IOS7 jailbreak untethered working yet? from the modmyi facebook page it sounds like its working except for a few tweaks here and there
any thoughts to this?

The JB is working just fine.
But if you are looking to run tweaks/themes etc, then best to hold off, as most of the components to perform these functions are still not updated and are not working yet.
