texting plan on iphone question

I unlocked my iphone yesterday and using it with my ATT family plan. I decided not to sign up for the data plan, but I want to sign up for a text msg plan because I just found out ATT is raising the per use price. I tried going into my account on ATT.com to add text msg feature, but it gives me a error msg then I switch out my SIM and put it back on my old phone and ATT.com went back to normal.

So I was wondering if I add the text msg feature on my line with the old phone then swap the SIM back into the iphone will the text msg plan still work?

it should be able to recognize it. And keep the text messages. I dont think there would be a problem
