eBay listing for i5 says 'bad esn', but also unlocked..will gsm work?

Hey guys.

So I'm just a little confused. I wanna grab an iphone 5 off eBay, and have found one I want, however the listing says it has a bad esn but is unlocked. I'd like to hear from someone who knows their stuff to tell me whether or not it will work on gsm (also, I'm in Australia. I'm wanting to buy it from America because its $100's cheaper).
