Is the phone locked to a network or sim free?

Well than you are stuck. There is now other sim card than that original from O2, which will work.
BB 04.12.02 can be unlocked only from O2 if you ask them (depending on the conditions they apply) or IMEI unlock by some unlocking service, which will, of course cost some money.

Don't get it. You had that phone working fine and after the jailbreak, you lost service, right.
If so, than something went wrong with JB. If Cydia is ok, than install SAM, deactivate the phone with it and after that connect the phone to iTunes with your O2 card inside. Should be activated again.

Sounds like the phone has been black listed. Maybe it's been reported lost/stolen or the owner didn't pay out the original contract.

If this is the case the phone is useless, you can't get it unblacklisted.
