11-07-2012, 11:56 AM #1"No WiFi" problem; restore and upgrade to 6.0 or return for service?
A few days ago, my iPhone 4S (running 5.1.1, jailbroke with absinthe) lost it's WiFi and Bluetooth capability.
I had just installed PDAnet and was successfully using both WiFi and able to USB tether as well.
While switching off the USB tethering and trying to go back to WiFi tethering, I noticed that the WiFi icon under Settings was greyed out. I could not get it back. I tried resetting the network settings. I even used the new redsnow and restored to 5.1.1 and set up as a new phone and it was still disabled. Today, I noticed I could not start up a bluetooth connection either.
So I'm pretty sure my issue is hardware related. However, since it did start up after using PDAnet, I wonder if it might be software.
Anyway, my dilemma is, should I do a clean upgrade to 6.0.1 and see if it fixes my wifi problem? But of course, I'll lose my jailbreak.
Or should I return it to Apple, (they will either want me to upgrade to 6.0.1 or give me a new phone) where I may end up with a replacement that has a small chance of staying on 5.1.1?

You can return to 5.1.1 after updating if you like anyway, then JB again. Just be sure you have save blobs. But updating to a new version could definitely help

I have a 4S. I thought once you loaded iOS 6 or higher, you could not go back down to 5.x.x, even if you do have blobs.

Or I can take it in to apple, possibly get a new phone, but if it has 6.0 on it, not be able to jailbreak it.
Or, stay with what I have, with no WiFi or Bluetooth. I could live without one or the other, but losing both is tough. Either way, I guess I'll have to risk it.

Yeah, I've already re-restored to 5.1.1 once. It didn't fix the problem. I don't know if upgrading to 6.0.1 will fix it. But if I try, I can't go back down to 5.1.1
I think I'll re-restore to 5.1.1, set up as new phone and take it to apple, hoping that I get a replacement that still has 5.1.1 on it.

Maybe setting up as new will fix this.

Well, I bit the bullet and upgraded to 6.0.1 and WiFi and Bluetooth still don't work.
So it's off to the apple store tomorrow to get a replacement. Hopefully, it will have 5.x on it and not 6.x

Worst case, I'll have to join the ranks of those waiting for a jailbreak for 6.x
But at least I'll have my WiFi and Bluetooth. It's amazing what how much you actually use those...

Took it in this morning. Of course they couldn't do anything to fix it, so I walked out with a new phone. Unfortunately, it is pre-installed with iOS 6.0.
So no jailbreak for me. But at least my WiFi and Bluetooth work.
