I have also read on another forum that you can actually make it fit (tightly) without making it thinner. Not sure about this, but just passing on what I have read.

In the States, you can only get A1428 standard for GSM and A1429 CDMA model. You cannot get GSM 1429 model in the states.
A1428 will not support LTE in UK , only in Canada and US.
In summary, if you want LTE support in UK, you should get GSM A1429 which you can purchase in UK, Singapore or any Asian countries.
If you don't mind not being able to use LTE in UK or Europe and want it cheaper, you can get it in the states, model A1428 GSM model.
You can tell which country is selling unlocked iphone at the apple retail store. When you visit their website and click on the apple store, if it directs you to choose from the providers then it means they are not selling factory unlocked iphones at the stores.
An example :
Try going to Apple Store Singapore website, it doesn't direct you to any providers and it lists full price and this means you can purchase factory unlocked iphone from Singapore.
Hopefully , i have answered your questions.
