*update*
i have downgraded back to 5.1.1 but i am still getting no sound. unless i have my headphones are plug in

please specify what phone you have,
and did this issue occur when you upgraded to iOS 6?
and you mentioned you only hear sounds when you have your earplugs plugged in?
