Are u currently jailbroken?...if so, I would make sure u do a clean backup, then do a DFU mode restore... If jailbroken, do u unlock?..
What phone do u have?

Put your device into recovery mode, plug it into your computer, and click restore. You can look it up on YouTube for a better demonstration. Search "how to restore *****"

No, 2k1, what I meant by a clean backup is...this is what I do...over time regular backup files can get corrupted...what I do(for my wifes phone) is rename the current backup folder in userid/appdata/roaming/apple computer/mobilesync/backup to same name but with date-time in there too..that makes iTunes create a new "clean" backup..
Then I will use that backup and restore from it...like I said..only on wife's phone...she has game data she doesn't want me to mess up...if u don't care about game data or texts etc and have everything backed up outside iTunes backup somehow, then yes, restore as new phone, not from backup...
Anyway supershev, if u care about game data etc, use the clean backup/restore method...if u don't, restore n setup as a new phone not from backup...I would put phone in DFU mode first either way....
