Thread: Quarter Screen Issue on Every Reboot

Default Quarter Screen Issue on Every Reboot
I run into the quarter screen issue a lot. I know it has to do with Activator issues and you just have to go into Safe Mode to get out of it. But every single time I reboot my phone, it happens. Why is this happening? Is there anything I can do?

I'm having the same issue and since its more of a nuisance than a real problem in my uneducated opinion i have just more less dealt with it. I'd love to have it fixed though

    btw, iPhone 4 5.0.1

Same here, I'm just used to applying the "quick fix" to make it work again. What device are you using? I wander if it's a bad Cydia app, I've added a bunch recently. I don't mind posting my Cydia packages and sources to identify the issue.

Try refreshing Cydia and then un-installing Activator. From there install the newest version and then reboot, hopefully that will fix it.

    EDIT: Never mind

You can only not help him if his problem is caused by the piracy. If his issue is not related to it you can still help him.

Happened to me. Found the solution by doing Internet search, but if I recall, I went into safe mode, went to Cydia and uninstalled whatever package had not properly installed. It was listed right on Cydia as soon as I went there. Rebooted, all was good.

  9. #9
All of packages have been properly installed though. Is there a package that utilizes Activator that's causing the issue?

You can never be sure they're all properly installed. Packages can get screwy without warning.

I seriously doubt it judging from your package list. Other people have had this issue as well, it's just Activator itself.

I wonder if installing Apptivator might make a difference to your problem?

  12. #12
Hmm I wonder what makes it do this? I guess I could play around with recently installed Cydia packages to see.

  13. #13
Should I install Apptivator and uninstall Activator at the same time?

I believe that a respring fixes this, but if it comes back after a reboot, then try instead powering off and powering back on while holding the volume + button. Then do a normal power cycle.

This has been happening for over a month now, so I've respringed many times since then. I tried the volume button plus powering down method. It didn't work after the second power cycle (still in quarter screen mode), but what exactly did that do? It looks like it booted into safe mode without actually being in safe mode. Weird.

Hi, the volume + trick is explained on the MobileSubstrate page in Cydia. It is similar to safe mode. I had a quarter screen issue, but just on background images.
    See article
    http://modmyi.com/forums/general-iph...jailbreak.html
The fix was to get into safe mode and delete various cached image files at Directory
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/ and then reboot. I don't know which ones might work for you (presuming same fault type) but your could reboot to create your problem and search with iFile in Directory
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/ to see if any files there were altered with the same time stamp as the reboot. Then go into safe mode, make a copy of them, delete and reboot.

Thanks for the info. I replicated the problem, went into safe mode, backed up all the files that were changed during the reboot, deleted them, rebooted, and the problem still exists. Oh well, I may just end up redoing my phone later on.

Darn... could uninstall some old pre iOS5 tweaks you have like
    SBSchedule
Power Sound Disabler (a respring tweak)
    Data Deposit (may 2011 tweak)
    LayerSnapShotter
    MultiIconMover
    HUDchanger
    also
Pull to refresh mail is not needed for iOS5
    Maybe remove
    Fabius Utils
    Home Page in Safari
    Clear Spotlight
    Samba

Random thought... Check your version/build is correct for your iPhone in settings, general, about.

Ahhhhh! After hours of removing apps, three at a time, trying and trying, I finally figured out what it was! It was Auto Location. I just thought it would be cool to automatically put it in to always allow my location for me. After looking over an iOS 5 compatibility list, I learned that it has no effect in iOS 5 anyways. I guess I just never noticed because it probably has you respring instead of rebooting and the problem comes up after rebooting. Glad I found it!
