tip
Create an Empty group on your mac - MacOSX > Contacts
in iTunes, set the Sync options to that empty group,

If you are using Windows
create 2 empty text files on your desktop and rename them to
AddressBookImages.sqlitedb
and
AddressBook.sqlitedb
copy/overwrite these empty files into " /var/root/Library/AddressBook" folder, using "Ibrickr"
this will empty your contacts list, since all contacts are stored in those two files.
Cheers!

Hi.
If you're using Windows, select "sync with windows adress book" (hope it's empty)and
press "apply". Itunes will delete all the contacts.
Or, if you have 2 PC's you may sync it with the 1st,
then sync with the 2nd, and while syncing with the 2nd PC OUTLOOK adress book, Itunes wil ask smth like this: "Replace or merge the data from this PC with data synced with the other PC"
Press "Replace", and new contacts will be added to your iphone. replacing the old data.
Or, if 2nd outlook is empty, the iphone contacts will be deleted

Why is it after I overwrite those 2 files with empty ones, sync with an empty contact folder in Outlook/itunes I have 20 contacts? I have 4 contact folders in Outlook all with 62 contacts in and I always have 20 after syncing with an empty list?
Contacts 62
Contacts Backup 62
Mobile 0
Mobile Backup 62
I tell itunes to sync with only Mobile and I now have 20 contacts. BUT if I put all 62 contacts in Mobile I end up with 82 contacts.
I then delete the doubles on the iPhone and resync and heres the fun bit, this is how it looks now
Contacts 48
Contacts Backup 52
Mobile 62
Mobile Backup 62
iTunes is set to sync with Mobile only and put new contacts in Mobile so why is Contacts getting some entries removed and why are there always 20 contacts left and where are they from? They keep reappearing if I delete them.
The only way I found to sync properly is to reflash the iphone but last time I did that I lost all my calender, contacts and emails from outlook.
Why did Apple make it so hard? My Pocket PC that I've had for over 5 years still to this day syncs perfectly and after about 50 OS reinstalls and upgrades and a few PCs later its still happy and correct...
I will happily trade this stupid thing for a Dopod so is anyone interested? I've had enough.
Click here. Need I say more?
Found the fix on another site.
Under Preferences, Sync click "reset sync history" and sync again. It worked but still not happy with the iphone.Last edited by NakedFaerie; 07-17-2008 at 01:45 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Easy way to erase All Groups and Contacts
You can't just erase from you computer because when you go to sync it will take what is on your iphone and put it in your address on the computer. There for you copy all your contacts in your computer address book copy some where safe. Then erase the contacts in the computer address book. Connect your phone to itunes select sync all contacts. NOW UNDER ADVANCE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE SELECT CONTACTS THIS FORCES ITUNES TO REPLACE THE CONTACTS ON IPHONE WITH A EMPTY CONTACTS LIST THAT YOU JUST DELETED --- ALL DONE.....

You may try this (I did it before):
1. Backup the outlook .pst file and create a blank new pst.
2. At yr iTune, select and sync ONLY the contact list w/ the outlook, plus overwrite iphone by the outlook contact list.
3. Sync the iphone.
4. Done. Then replace the outlook .pst with the backup.

You could just SSH (or iPhoneBrowser) into your iPhone and delete the *.db files in Contacts, SMS, etc folders and reboot. They are really gone!! After the reboot a new empty .db filed is created. Easy as pie
