Is there any way to make the iPhone stay dark and just play the notification sound when text and/or emails are received? This would be a great tweak. I hate when my iPhone lights up showing the world when I get a new message. I have an iPhone 4s on 5.1.1 and will be rejailbreaking tomorrow thanks for your help.

I believe with stock iOS, you can just turn off alerts. So you'll only here the sound and see the badges.

In notification center, just turn off view in lockscreen for every notification you don't want to see turn the screen on. You'll hear the noise, but no screen activation. The only down side is that when you unlock your phone, you'll be bombarded with banners/alerts of all those notifications when you unlock your phone.

I want the banners and stuff to still be on my lockscreen when I light it up on my own but just don't want them to trigger the backlight.
