    well according to my Model number: MC640LL : (MC) I would say New boot rom...

    BUT

    According to my Serial Number: 86034****** : (4th and 5th digit are less than 40...) I would say Old boot rom...

    What gives?

    Any ideas?

    New bootrom, old baseband chip... Two different things...

    So basically when it comes to jail breaking you'll have to wait till the tethered becomes untethered (difference between new & old bootrom).

    Going by the serial, you have a 3GS with an Infineon chip & not the Toshiba chip (baseband unlocking).

    So which is better the infine chip or the toshiba chip? I rely on an unlock

    You've an old baseband chip so your ok for unlocking.
