Thread: New to forum, ready to jailbreak but need to restore

  1. #21
Yeah, thats what I tried. I thought I would see a game folder in the sections, but there is none. I looked in all the other folders, nothing. Tried searching the forums, but not finding much on installation. Just went to zod's website, and there is not much there either.

Wow, you got a ton more than I do. When I installed Cydia, it had I think 3 boxes to check what parts you wanted installed. The first box was checked by default, and the other 2 were for advanced users. You think I should have checked one of those other boxes? Should I uninstall Cydia and reinstall it, or just run the install again? Or should I restore my phone, and start from square one again, then reinstall Cydia?

    So you didnt pick developer?

  5. #25
No, I didn't. That's got to be the problem. I wonder if I can just run Cydia installer again, and install the developer package.

    I'm not sure about that

  7. #27
Hmm, I think I might just restore my phone again, then installl Cydia again. I haven't reloaded my contacts and photos yet, so its not that big of a deal. So is that what it is, I need the developer package? Will post my progress tonight.

You got a iPhone 4 or 4s try got 5.1 now for it.

  9. #29
Ah, 5.1 is out. Yeah then I guess a restore then jailbreak again, would be best, then I have the newest firmware. Same version of Cydia though, right? So you think if I pick developer during Cydia install, I should be good?

If you restore and go to 5.1 you can jailbreak but it will be tethered jailbreak

  11. #31
Hmm...not sure what that means. Would I be better off just trying to run Cydia again with 5.0.1?

Oh, and this is the procedure I used for the jailbreak. I only checked the "Install Cydia" option like the guide. I guess I didn't see a developer option anywhere, or is that something extra I need to install?-

When you first open Cydia for the first time it comes up with it. Three choices.

  13. #33
Oh ok, didn't remember seeing that. So, if I restore to 5.1, then the jailbreak would be tethered, meaning I can't reboot normally? Sounds like I would be better with 5.0.1. So I either need to uninstall and reinstall Cydia and see if it works, or find 5.0.1 firmware on the web somewhere and restore it then install Cydia again?

Im not If the Cydia thing will work. You can try I just dont want you to restore cause apple is not signing 5.0.1 anymore you would have to go to 5.1 with a tethered jailbreak

  15. #35
I can download firmware 5.0.1 and restore to it. Actually found it in the download section. The only thing is I don't know the difference between CDMA and GSM firmware, and which one I would want to use.

Give it a try and see

Ok, I think AT&T uses GSM since they use SIM cards.

Ah, it doesn't unzip as an ipsw file. Not sure how to restore with this.

Ok, got it. Just had to change the extension. Restore is not working though, when it is verifying with apple, I get a 3194 error every time. Well it looks like uninstall Cydia and reinstall.

Ok I'm confused. You got it working?

  20. #40
No, not yet. The restore did not work, everytime it went to verifying with apple, I got an error. So I guess if I want to keep 5.0.1, I am going to have to uninstall and reinstall Cydia, and select developer this time. Hopefully it will work

edit- Well Cydia will not unistall, so I am going to just run the install again.

edit again- Cydia will not run again, it keeps crashing.
