Default Settings > phone > my number = unknown

Updated wife's iPhone 4 to iOS 5.0.1 and

Settings > Phone > My Number
    shows UNKNOWN.

I assume this prevents imessages and sms messages from working because they are not going through, unless she has wifi signal.
She does not have 3g service so if she wanted to send an iMessaage without wifi signal, the phone should automatically switch to sms... and it doesn't.
All messaging settings are on: iMesages and Send as SMS.

I tried my sim from my iPhone 4 on 5.0.1 on her phone and get UNKNOWN number as well.
Tried her sim on my phone and her number shows. So it's definitely an issue with her phone.

Updated her phone with Sn0wbreeze because she needs unlock.

Any ideas how to fix this.

The best way to isolate any issues is to restore the phone and try it without jailbreaking it. If you need to preserve the baseband then I understand you can't do the above.

So if the latter is the issue, create a new custom fw and use a new stock fw at that (download from another source just in case) then restore to it. See if the problem is resolved. Try it first by setting the phone up as new. If it works, restore from backup later if applicable.

Thanks, I figured that would be my only option but wanted to see if there was something I may have missed.

Unfortunately, it's probably the way you have to go. You ruled out any problems with her SIM by using yours too. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I had the same issue with my iP4 after upgrading with a custom firmware to preserve my 1.59.00 BB. I restored from backup after I was done and had the "My Number=Unknown" issue you have.
I started over Restore w/Custom ipsw/Jailbrreak/UltraSn0w but this time I set up as a new phone and reloaded everything the hard way.
    Problem solved.
