How do you recover deleted photos on I phone 4, ios 5.0.1?

So I need to recover some photos and videos that were deleted before backup, long story... I've been working posts that can get you real close to pulling an image of the iphone for data recover but there seems to be tons of people who cant get the "umount" or "dd if=/dev/disk0" code to work.

I have Jailbroke the phone and installed mobile terminal.
added the umount command and execute enabled it.
Tried to Umount the drive. (errors out)
Tried to dd an image. (errors out)

I'm on iphone 4 with 5.0.1.

Can anyone actually burn an image of their iphone successfully? See: HOW TO: iPhone Data Recovery to get a feel for the issues.

I've worked with them, they can only pull files from an Itunes backup.
