Is it safe to give out your UDID?

Hello,
a developer has asked for my UDID so he can send me access to a beta version of an application. I've been writing e-mails with him for several weeks now but I still don't know him he is some random dude on the internet so I can't really trust him. As I have no idea what is UDID and Google was full of various answers which didn't help me - is it safe for me to give a dev my UDID? What powers will that give him?
