Hi..I really need some expert help,im stuck and don't know what to do!!
Here's my problem..I have an I-Phone 3GS 3.1.2 (7D11) with 11.05.07 it has never been Jailbroken. It was on Vodafone therefore I paid Vodaphone £20 to get it unlocked to be able to use it on other networks. At the moment the phone is rubbish, there's very few Apps that im able to get as they all require IOS 4!! I need some guideance on where to go from here. I want to update to a more up to date IOS but which 1 is best suitable for my 3GS (NEW BOOTROM) the 4th number of my serial is 4 and the 5th is 5 please correct me if im wrong. After updating I would also like to jailbreak, as i would like to customise my phone etc. Please could someone point me in the right direction on how I go about doing this?? I've read so many guide's+how to's but decided to ask my question to get the correct anser for my particular problem. Expert help would be much appreciated , As the last thing i want to end up doing is wrecking my phone!!
So are you wanting to upgrade then jailbreak it or just upgrade it? Either way just hit upgrade in iTunes. It'll upgrade to 5.0.1. If you want to jailbreak it, simply use Redsn0w on it. You can find the latest version the the dev team's blog at blog.iphone-dev.org
Ok,will it really be as simple as that? I want to update and have been thinking about the ITunes update to 5.0.1 for a while, but ive seen loads of people wanting to downgrade from it! I really dont mind if it's IOS 4 or IOS 5, which ever one is going to be the best,what would you do ???
Yes. It's that simple really. People probably want to downgrade bc of the misconception that downgrading will downgrade the baseband too which it doesn't. Usually software unlockers are the ones that ask about that. You're on a 3GS, you'll always be able to downgrade to 4.1. If you don't like 5.0.1 you can downgrade to 4.1 any time.
Ok, So i should go for the 5.0.1!!! I'm going to do it now thank you so much for answering my question, I wanted to be sure it was the right thing to do.
