Default Offline Maps with xGPS and GMDL

I have xGPS working perfectly with my Bluetooth GPS on my iPhone 2G and 3G.

But I wish to get offline maps since I do not have cell service on either iPhone.

I tried at first to do with xGPS but it takes forever and seems to crash after a very long time of downloading.

So I figured try it the GMDL on the PC way and then transfer it.

What I wish to do is get a map of PA, NJ, and the lower part of NY covering NYC and Long Island all in one map.

But when I zoom out to cover those places, I'm told that the map will be 1000GB or so.

Basically I wanna have a map of these 3 states, so I can travel freely without worrying about finding WiFi.

I know it has to be possible to make the map small, my Nokia Internet Tablet N810 has an entire east coast map 760mb.

    Hi redpenguin,

You can try MapsWithMe - offline maps for iPhone and iPad. Maps of PA, NJ and NY are 30-35 Mb each. Best of all, the app is completely free!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I'm one of the developers of the app I hope you'll find it useful.

    Default iPhone 2G

I see it only works on iOS4 and above.

Do you have an older version I can install on my iPhone 2G?

Also, do you plan on continuing iOS4 support? I ask because my 3G cannot be upgraded to iOS5.

Thanks again as it looks like a really cool app.

Yes, that's right, MapsWithMe requires iOS4 or above. We plan to continue support of iOS4 for the nearest future, at least for the next 3-6 months.
The app works on iPhone 3G, but for the best possible experience, we strongly recommend iPhone 3GS or better.
