I have tried everything to restore my iPhone. Please help!

Ok, so my friend gave me their old iPhone, as they upgraded to a iPhone 4S (Lucky, I know,) he has since started his studies overseas, and only now have I had the time to really figure the iPhone out and use it.

However, upon putting my sim card into the phone, it said "Enter Passcode" and i was stuck, seeing as my friend is overseas, I couldn't ask him for the code, so I googled everything I could and tried everything, and am now stuck, and in desperate need for help! Here is what happens.

. I put my phone into the computer, and iTunes tells me I need the passcode etc etc, please enter it on the phone.

. I then tried to put it in restore mode, and restore it, and it says "the iphone could not be restored this device isn't eligible for the requested build."

. So i tried to put it in DFU mode, and am met again with, "the iphone could not be restored this device isn't eligible for the requested build."

. I then downloaded 3 previous '.ipsw' restore files, one being a jailbroken one and again i see the same problem.

. After youtubing for a few hours, I tried to change something in Terminal (Mac) and adding lines to hosts etc. and am met with a new error.



Since then, my iPhone has said "iPhone is disabled, please connect to itunes" but every now and then, it will give me a chance to enter passcode.

Please can someone help me on what to do now, I feel like im clutching at straws

Bro you are getting error "not eligible" because the ios version on your iphone is outdated.
Means that apple is not signing the firmware you are trying to restore.

You should download ios 5.0.1 ipsw for yor iphone
Then put your phone in dfu mode and then try to restore.

Ok, so everything worked, then last second, I get an error (1600). Any ideas?

You get errors like 1600 etc because you havn't put your iphone in pwnged dfu mode.

You can't restore with simple dfu mode. Use redsnow or snowbreez to put iphone in pwned dfu mode.
Then restore. Everything will be fine.

Hey bro, appreciate the reply! Im on a mac and put it into Pwned DFU mode, with redsnow and im pretty sure it worked but i got the same error so i dont know what to do?

Oh and also, my redsnow didnt identify my 5.0.1 file, i had to try it with 4.2.1
