Default How to cancel software update on iOS 5 iPhone ?
I have a jailbroken iPhone 4 updated to iOS 5 and running the tethered redsn0w jailbreak.

Today a mate was using my iPhone while on Wi-Fi and he pressed the update button on my iPhone :-/

I disconnected it from the WiFi so the update stopped..
But how can i cancel the update so it will not continue when connecting to a WiFi network again ?

Thanks in advance to any help I receive.

Dont worry about it, since your jailbroken , because the update does a check on /Application , and the update will cancel itself out before it even starts

hey guys, i have the same problem. I have an iphone 4s with ios 5.0.0 (not jailbroken) . I accidentally pressed update and install to ios 5.0.1 but i don't want to install it. can i cancel it?

just realised that if you switch the wi-fi off and on again it doesn't auto resume so i guess it's a way to stop it. But can it be cancelled?? does anyone know?

Default How to stop an OTA update
I made the same mistake - was on 5.0.1, started a 5.1 update over the air. Here's how I stopped my update:

    1. First, turn off WiFi! That will PAUSE the update. It will still try to resume unless you do the following

    2. Next, ssh in to your iPhone and do:
    cd /var/mobile/Library/SoftwareUpdate
    mv softwareupdateservicesd.plist softwareupdateservicesd.plist.bak

    3. Go to Settings > General > Reset All Settings
(It's annoying to re-enter your WiFi password and choose your wallpaper, but your mail accounts etc. remain intact).
    Your phone will reboot.

    4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update
it should say "your software is up to date" --> go to step 5.
if it offers you the new update (but has not started the download) --> you are done!
if it still shows a paused download, repeat steps 1-3, rebooting after each step.

    5. ssh in to your iPhone and do:
    cd /var/mobile/Library/SoftwareUpdate
    mv softwareupdateservicesd.plist softwareupdateservicesd.plist-bak2
    mv softwareupdateservicesd.plist.bak softwareupdateservicesd.plist

    6. Go to Settings > General > Software Update
it should give you an error.

    7. Navigate back to General, and General > Software Update again
it should offer you the 5.1 update.

Your phone is back to normal (minus a few settings)

    Cheers!
