Views on IOS 5
Now that 5 has been out in the wild for a while, and everyone has stopped gushing, what's it really like?
I'm on 4.3.3 and am realistic that an untethered 5 JB is possibly not gonna happen. So I'm wondering if it's time to bite the bullet and go unJB'd to 5 or if it's not really all it's cracked up to be, to stay at JB'd 4.3.3.

im with you M8, dunno if upping to iOS 5 is gonna be worthwhile
im also on 4.3.3, think im gonna stay there. untethered, and fast enough for me
maybe there is an iOS 5 "tell-all" thread... otherwise, there should be. im curious to know whats special about 5.0
off to search
well after a quick Google search i came up with a few changes:
mainly, the iCloud. syncing to the Cloud without a computer... nice, but not for me
some other visual changes, lockscreen, iPod app, etc.
another addition to the lockscreen are the improved notifications.
all except iCloud can be implemented into iOS4 by theming, or changing resources if you know how.
iOS 5 looks cool and smooth, but i think im staying with 4.3.3 for now
iCloud seems a bit more like "iBrother" watching me. hahaLast edited by zedbra; 11-06-2011 at 06:31 PM.

Ya, mush the conclusion I've come to.
Icloud: after .mac and MobileMe I'm in no rush to trust Apple with icloud.
IMessage: got Whatsapp which works just fine. Or, plain old texts!
Notification centre: no way would I give up Lockinfo so I'm thinking NC is redundant anyway.
Siri: I have a wife, don't need something else telling me to do things or telling me something can't be done ;-)
And I think that's it's really!

I'm with u baskie! Lockinfo is the best! I mucked up n had to go up to 4.3.3 from 4.2.1 on my 3GS...wishin I didn't have to do that but oh well, at least I'm still untethered jb with lockinfo n SBS! Why apple doesn't make SBS functionality in iOS 5 is beyond me....I'm stayin on 4.3.3 for now

well, after some debate and research i decided to try out iOS 5(only because i can go back to 4.3.3 no probs)
im gonna check it out for a few days to see if it really is worth keepiing.
if you guys wanna try iOS 5, simply make a custom IPSW to preserve BB
and backup the SHSH so you can revert back
iOS 5 uses an extra 1GB of space for all the extras, FYILast edited by zedbra; 11-07-2011 at 08:34 PM.

Been away from the iphone jb community awhile now since I got my iphone 4 (virgin) several months ago. Since the ios5 came out, I've been wanting to update; however, I thought I would read up on some reviews about this new firmware.
Since you restore to ios5 and you mentioned that to create a custom firmware and backup the SHSH to fall back to 4.3.3 if needed. I read on this article that restoring from ios5 with a save SHSH will not work. Is this true?

i did it on my 3Gs. gotta backup the SHSH with a proggy like iFaith or similar.
then compile the custom IPSW 4.3.3 or whatever you currently have.
next you need to take the OFW iOS 5 and create a custom IPSW to preserve the BB,
use the either latest redsn0w, or whatever depending on the OS you have(Mac or PC)
put the phone in Pwnd DFU to flash either IPSW, and you can switch between iOS 5 and 4.3.3
