Factory Unlocked?
So, let me explain a bit and I'll be as short as possible. I bought a MINT condition 32gb iPhone 3GS today off Craigslist not even 20 minutes ago. Came with box, cables are ALL still wrapped. Absolute steal @ $140 IMO! On top of that, I'm about to check, but I think it's and OLD bootrom as well. But what is strange... It has kind of a "different looking" IMEI # and asked some "where in the world/region" (now learned I hit the drop down menu oops) questions during iOS 5 setup... Now question is...
How does one tell if they have a "Factory Unlocked" 3GS, i4, or i4S without actually buying it themselves? He was foreign and could have swore he said he bought it over seas. Is there something in settings to look at or do I just need to call my T-Mobile using buddy over and pop in his SIM?
Thanks in advance
EDIT:
OLD bootrom Woo Hoo!!!
That's 2 in a row I scored off Craigslist that are Old BR... 32gb and flawless. Got lucky. Lol
OK: It's not a factory unlocked... No biggie. But can someone still answer my question? How does one tell a factory unlocked iPhone apart from a carrier locked iPhone???

i read somewhere there is a way to check, but for the life of me cannot remember where or how.
best bet, Google for s/w that may be able to check for lock status.
i know for Moto's "RadioComm" could do it, but im pretty sure it's only for p2k/p2k05 phones

I remember people saying you can put in the serial number into apples warranty status checker and it would tell you if it was carrier locked. Give it a shot https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do If that doesnt work just pick up a 5$ sim card from some random carrier to do the test.
