Got the new 4s: some questions about transferring from 3gs

As per the title, I upgraded--but before plugging it in and restoring from my 3gs backup, i installed some apps, texted some people and took some pictures and video.

now, i've read that the only way to transfer everything (texts,pictures,music,etc) from the old phone is to restore from a backup (my backup is also 3.1.3, if that matters).

The new texts, pictures, music and apps will be erased if i do the restore right?? (yet the ones from my 3gs should all be there?)

If you have logged into icloud on your 4s then apps and music should be auto synching with itunes, but synch it with itunes anyway - just make sure you use a different name for the 4s to the 3gs. Also if your photostream turned on in iCloud your pictures are automatically stored with that.

Back up your 3gs, make sure it has a unique name before backup - add 3gs in there if it helps. Then unplug the 3gs, plug in the 4s, click restore and let itunes download and restore the firmware - when it's done select the 3gs backup and restore to that - once done you will have to log into icloud again, imessage etc and when you move a backup from one device to another your keychain is wiped so every password for mail, wifi etc will need re-entering. Before you next synch with iTunes make sure you change the 4s device name to something else unique to keep all backups handy just in case.

Nope youll have to use a cydia backup app for that.

Well I didn't necessarily mean the jailbreak apps or anything installed with cydia--i just mean will any code fragments (and the like) be transferred over with the backup? I have read something somewhere (while researching this) that there is a possibility of messing something up (it might say that, i can't find what i read to reread it)

also, can i just copy /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS/sms.db file out of my 3gs and past it into my Library/SMS folder on my 4s (assuming I jb and install openssh). Which, if I did that, could I just un-jb and have all the sms still? (and, would that work with other .db files, i.e. notes, recordings, or any other files that I would want to transfer?)

and tell me if anything I'm asking doesn't make sense, I'll try to rephrase lol
