    Default iMessage for 3GS

Anyone know how to send messages to an iMessage user? I have no idea on how to. I can receive messages from other people using iMessage but I can't seem to figure out how to start a conversation using this app. I can't add the "@" and "." symbols on the default messaging app so yeah. Teach me please

My contact does have iMessage. I know what it is. I just can't add "@" and "." symbols because I'm on tmobile. It only works for AT&T unless someone has a solution to fixing this problem. Like so:

all I could suggest is to get them to message you threw iMesaage first and then save/add their details to a new/existing contact. This would probably be the easiest and most simplest way of doing things

Yeah that's what I had a friend do. Worked fine but I guess I can't seem to compose a text first.

Yeah that would be a problem still, i guess what you could do is type their email address as a note or compose a new email so you will have the '@' and '.' buttons and then copy and past it into the iMessage address field. That should work for you

Tried and it failed, it removes the dot and "@" :/

What happens if you write the email address into the body of the message? If you click the button '.?123' you should be able to see the '@' and '.' in there

Make a new contact and add their email there. Then press send message at the bottom to start a iMessage conversation with them.

Hopefully Apple will add the ability to type email addresses right in the messages app. Seems like a big oversight.

Add an email to it. It still may say waiting for activation for your number but it should work using the email address.
