So I made a dumb mistake by trying to update my jailbroken iphone from 4.3.3 to ios 5. It obviously didnt work and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode. I dont know what to do. I tried deleting the hosts or whatever and trying to restore back to 4.3.3 but its not working. What can I do?
Also what is a fresh restore? Does that mean I will lose all my previous data. I was smart enough to do a back up before attempting to upgrade my iphone though.
Hi there!
I got the same kind of problem here, with an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2, both on jailbroken 4.3.3. I intended to update them "the official" way and lose the jailbreak but the update process always failed: the update file was downloaded well, and during the file check that just follows the download itself, I always got an error message saying the downloaded file was probably damaged during download and that I should check my connexion. After a dozen tries, always the same error at the same point.
I decided to download the IPSW from the internet myself and do a Restore in iTunes instead of an update. iTunes starts expanding the archive (what goes well) and then preparers the iPhone for the restore process. And there, an unknown error occurs (numbered 21 for the iPhone and 14 for the iPad) saying the iPhone/iPad can't be restored. I also tried quite a few times, and always got the same error at the same moment. And since I've tried the restore way, both iPhone and iPad are stuck in Recovery Mode!!
I've tried RecBoot, iRecovery and TinyUmbrella's Fix Recovery without any success. I've spent my whole yesterday surfing the internet for advice or solutions but couldn't find any helpful trick...
Successful migration from jailbroken 4.3.3 to iOS 5 (no jailbreak)
Hey Guys,
I just executed the update to an un-jailbroken iOS 5. I am posting the process I used for you guys because I see that there have been a few problems and I had to do a little research myself before attempting this. I hope this helps you all!
