Which can be achieved by jailbreaking the iPhone with redsn0w, yes? Which would give it AFC2 support, and thus read/write capability through iPhone Browser/Finder?

Getting access to the phone is the first step. What is done 'after' access is up to the developer.
IE: Before a jailbreak can be performed, it must be granted full read-write access. Multiple tools/utilities/tricks are needed to jailbreak. We see them as 'nicely packaged all-in-one utilities' (aka redsn0w, pwnagetool, sn0wbreeze).
