iphone 3g 4.2.1 bb 6.15.0 stuck in restore mode
I've been working on unlocking iphone 3g without ability to connect to wifi or network
I successfully upgraded the baseband to 6.15.00 using pwnage tool
I was trying to use cyder (on windows) to upload packages for ultrasn0w and had to restart phone but now it is stuck in restore
I tried to restore using custom firmware but repeatedly get various messages from itunes that the phone can not be restored (1603, 1604, 1611, 20000, etc.)
I tried to use tinyumbrella but realized that i dont have any shsh previously saved
what to do???

You can't load 4.2.1 (or any 4.x except 4.1) without SHSH.
With no SHSH available the choices are few.
1) Any 3.x iOS
2) The latest 4.3.5
3) iOS 4.1
Apple is approving 4.1 at the moment

Thanks Mes,
Will I have to then download the 4.1 ipsw, pwnage that, and attempt restore again with iTunes?

Are you sure no SHSH is available? Use Tiny Umbrella to check.
If yes, a custom 4.1 firmware built by Pwnage or Snowbreeze is needed. Enter pwnd-DFU w/same. Restore shift/click restore select cfw with iTunes. ITunes Error 1015/6 is ok, use TinyUmbrella 'exit recovery'

Congratulations. Install Ultrasnow with Cydia for the unlock.
Cheers

The OP was on 4.2.1 and showed no interest in 3.1.3.
When it gets sluggish enough ... he'll be back

3.1.3 better than 4.1?
Will it fix the signal issue? I don't think it is the hardware because I changed the dock connector/antenna assembly and still have the same issue

Did you install ultrasn0w? Did you reboot at least twice? Settings / General / Network / Reset network settings?
What carrier are you using? Sometimes it takes several minutes to find and set-up a new carrier.

ultrasn0w was installed after rebooting at least twice. Using ATT. 3g is off. After >30 min, no change in service signal.

Everything looks ok for the last option. I want you to re-install the iPad 6.15 BB.
It's very simple. No restore is needed and it doesn't change anything on your phone.
Connect the phone.
Download redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc8, unzip, and run it.
Select stock 4.1 firmware ipsw + one (1) option: Install iPad BB.
Follow the instructions to put into pwnd-DFU mode.
When it's finished ... phone will reboot normally. You might want to do it again.
Allow at least 30 minutes to find the network.
If it doesn't find it, Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
Phone will reboot. Give it more time to find the network.
Reinstalling the iPad BB ...sometimes... fixes this issue.
If it still does not work, uninstall Ultrasn0w. Reboot. Install ultrasn0w and hope for the best
Good luck.

You're welcome. Hope this last-resort-option solves the problem.

FYI: 3.1.3 is really better on the 3G, but unlikely to have any effect on your no-signal problem
