    Default iPhone as USB storage

I'm looking for something that will enable me to use the iPhone 3gs as a USB storage device.

I've tried a couple of the official App Store apps, but they make you drag files to and from the device using iTunes, and won't let you work on a file located on the phone.

Ideally I want to be able to have phone appear in finder, open files on it, modify them and then save them back to it, as if the phone is a thumb drive.

I've seen USB Drive in Cydia, but there is very little info about it, and as it's well over a year old and only on version 1.1 I'm wondering if it's been left for dead/not compatible with ios4 etc.

    BTW- iPhone 3gs with 4.3.3. JB's obviously!

Check out Samba (via Cydia). I think it'll do the trick

Had a look at Samba. I'm at a total loss. What is it?

Ok, get it now. Have go say I don't think it's for me. requires more hacking than I'm comfortable doing.

    Thanks though.

Just discovered that USB disc Pro will allow the phone to appear in the finder. And even allow wireless access.

    £2 from the app store.

    Sorted.

That will work and work well .

It may not matter in your situation, but here's a small tid-bit:
App Store apps restrict where the data is stored.
Cydia app like Samba allow the store location to be almost anywhere.

This small distinction doesn't matter to most as the amount of available storage is almost identical.
