Any ideas on why my microphone doesn't work during phone calls?
I had a problem with my last iPhone and had that phone replaced.
The phone that replaced it has had a microphone problem from day 1.
The microphone works fine during recording video's, voice recorder and other apps. But often wont work during phone calls. I would say it doesn't work at all, but every so often it will work for a few minutes... my friends swear it works when I bang my phone, but I aren't sure.
This is clearly a software issue more than a component issue, as it seems like the phone won't transmit the audio from the microphone.
It wont work using the phone normally, on loudspeaker, on a wired headset or using a bluetooth headset.
Any ideas? It is a distance to my nearest Apple store so I'd rather be able to sort it out myself.

+1 If the microphone works 100% of the time with other apps (like recording) then it's almost certain a software problem.
Besides going to the Apple store, they best option is a restore.

I'm updating to 4.3 now.
I understand 4.3.5 doesn't have an untethered jailbreak?
I have done a restore before, there was no change.

Yeah, downloading 4.3 from Felixbruns, because 4.3.3 isn't on there.
Gonna have to dig out some spare cash for petrol now. To Newcastle I go!
I really can't do without my phone and haven't got a spare £500 (eek!) to do the express service.
I'm hoping for a miracle when this update finishes haha!
How odd is it though? The microphone works perfect for apps but not during calls? Its like the phone forgets to send the audio, yet it will work every so often. So strange.

When it's updated, I will restore it to factory and try calling it before restoring it to my backup. Just in case I have a bad backup from my last iPhone.
Hopefully that will work!
I'm downloading from here now. So will be running 4.3.3. Thanks!

iTunes wont update my phone.
I am holding shift, clicking restore and selecting the 4.3.3 software (which is labeled; iPhone3,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore), and its says 'The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)'.
Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?
Should I restore it to 4.2.1 first?

Now I am confused

I have never had to do this before!
Do I have to change my base-band?
Will changing my base-band affect my warranty? I'm sure that is what you change to unlock your phone right?
Doesn't matter now! I've found a thread that's helping me!
Thanks for putting up with me, Mes!Last edited by Cal91UK; 07-28-2011 at 01:56 PM.

Just another question, why is it so bad to have your baseband updated?
TinyUmbrella is showing a warning message telling me to 'be warned' that it may be updated.

People who unlock their phones for use with another carrier can't update their basebands or they lose the unlock.

Oh okay! Well mine isn't unlocked so I don't care.
I'm trying to use TU, but can't find a button that says 'Apply Changes'. I feel like an idiot.

Doesn't matter. I just went ahead thinking it does it automatically and I'm assuming it does considering its now updating!
Ahhh okay Mes, now I really do feel like an idiot lmao!
My iPhone is now in recovery mode and iTunes is not allowing it to update. It has said a 1013 error, so I deleted gs.apple.com out of the host file and now it is saying the 3194 error again.
I've tried running TU again and ticking and unticking 'set host to Cydia upon exit' and its just not working.
My phone is stuck in DFU mode.
I'm about to throw the thing at a wall!Last edited by Cal91UK; 07-28-2011 at 02:53 PM.

The 3194 error is fixed by allowing TU to do it's thing. Don't edit the hosts file.
The 1013 error can be resolved by using fixrecovery43 available at http://cache.firmwareumbrella.com/do...covery-win.zipLast edited by Mes; 07-28-2011 at 02:59 PM.

It's saying 3194 error but TU isn't fixing it. It did fix it before though!
Fixrecovery isn't fixing the DFU mode either, it says 'waiting for device to enter DFU mode' which it is already in! TU says the device is running 4.2.1, so I tried Fixrecovery421 and that says the same.
I wish I never jailbroken my iPhone to start with, its just caused so much hassle!

Sorry this is not working smoothly. Take a break. I'll try to contact someone
to help. Ok? Maybe a new voice will help this along. Patience please.
