Just to confirm, but the 3GS will work fine in Japan? I understand they don't use GSM but only 3G. As per Apple's page the cellular specs are:

- UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
- GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

However, I'm not sure which band(s) apply to Japan, though the specs indicate this is a quad-band or 'world phone'.

Also, does anyone know if it's possible to get a prepaid SIM (or prepaid phone) for two weeks as a tourist in Japan. The system is very bureaucratic and doesn't seem to allow SIMs unless you have a residence permit etc. Any way around that?
