iPhone 3G restore from newer iPhone Backup?

I apologize in advance seeing as this does not necessarily relate to jailbreaking, but I thought this would be the best section to post my question in and I have been browsing these forums when I have needed information on jailbreaking iPhones.

So my iPhone 3GS went swimming the other day, and I am back to using a 3g iPhone. The problem is, since the 3G I'm using is on 4.2.1, and cannot be updated to 4.3.3 which my 3GS was on, I can't restore the 3G with the backup from my 3GS. Is there a way to restore this 3G from my 3GS' backup?

iTunes won't let me, any help is much appreciated.

You can use something like iphone backup extractor or juicephone to get your stuff manually from the 3GS backup.

Your favorite Apple, iPhone, iPad, iOS, Jailbreak, and Cydia site.
