my iphone 3gs wont turn on, charge, or be recognized when pluged to my computer

ok so my battery was at 70% last night so i didn't charge it, this morning i woke up and saw that the battery died, so i plugged it in to my laptop and the battery appeared with the charging sign so i left it there and an hour later i went to check on it and it hasn't charged a bit. the apple logo appears for a while then it disappears and i see the same battery and charging sign ,

idk what to do i tried plugging it in my car, with 2 different cables i tried my laptop, the wall, i even read on google that i should restart my computer with it connected but that did do anthing either

my phone is jailbroken its on firmware 4.2.1

have you tried cleaning the connector?

I bought an ipod touch for $15 dollars that the "geniuses" at an apple store could not figure out what was wrong with and all that needed to be done was clean the connector with a q-tip and a little rubbing alcohol
