why won't redsn0w make it untethered tho? i downgrade the 3gs from 4.2.1 to 4.1 and then it get stucks in recovery mode/dfu mode and then i ran redsn0w rc8 with the correct firmware/newboot rom and once it was done it was still stuck in recovery/dfu mode i tried to kick it out with tinyumbrella still nothing. The only thing that works is booting in tethered mode via redsn0w.. i even tried greenpois0n and still tethered..

Why not stay on 4.2.1 then it would be untethered for sure. Anyways are you using greenpois0n rc5?

well the phone had grn on it at 4.2.1 and i needed to restore it and i think it was rc6 of gp

can i just make custom firmware of 4.1 or 4.2.1? and if i do don't i just check no to the ipad bb since it already has it?

Your going to need your shsh blobs for the firmware you are restoring to, unless you go with 4.3.3. Either way you will need a custom firmware because you have the iPad baseband installed.

Not necessarily if you restore without the shsh files you can boot tethered. As long as you domt have the shsh files you can always boot tethered but never be able to untether. If you dont have shsh files you'll have to go with a custom 4.3.3 and enjoy the untether there.

Yes use sn0wbreeze or pwnage tool.

No you need a custom firmware if you have the iPad baseband installed.

i thought on 4.1 firmware u can get rid of the baseband? and can i make custom firmware with sn0wbreeze and not install the ipad baseband since i have it correct? and also when i install the 4.3.3 custom firmware will it be stuck in recovery?

and when i run sn0wbreeze can i just run in normal mode or do i need to use expert mode?

No you will not install iPad baseband again. You need the custom firmware because it strips the baseband out of the update allowing you to restore to it. Do not install iPad baseband again it's not needed. You will need to put into pwned dfu and restore. Then you will have no errors. As for snowbreeze I'd use expert mode myself.

I'm not at my computer so your gonna have to list the options it gives you n I'll tell you. Can't remember what it gives you to choose off top of my head.
