    Default Unique Backup Problem

Through many wrong turns and procrastination, I find myself with a difficult to solve problem.

    My Goal:
Reformat and upgrade my iPhone firmware to the latest version (currently at 4.0.2), while keeping all of my SMS history data, and my Contacts information.

    The problem:
I cannot sync to iTunes. When connected it tells me I must restore as a backup, but that backup is dated last October and I will lose half of all my contact information and 3/4 of my SMS information which is unacceptable.

    What I've tried:
The closest solution I found was a cydia app called iBye, which let me backup my contacts and my SMS information into a dropbox folder. However, I have not yet gotten the restore function on that app to work (tested by making a note, backing up the "notes" information, deleting the note then trying to restore the notes info through the iBye app)
Thus, I am hesitant on my original plan of backing everything up through that app, restoring my iPhone then re-jailbreaking, reinstalling iBye and restoring the information from there. I do howver, have the "tar.gz"/".sqlite" files containing my contact and SMS information saved onto my dropbox folder.
What I tried to do next was to possibly edit that information into my outdated october backup so that when iTunes restored it, it would restore with that new information in, unfortunately I run a windows 7 machine with no access to a Mac and I have no program like iphone decoder script to help me navigate the backup folder.

Can anyone think of a way to accomplish my goal with this set of problems? Thank you in advance.

ssh into device, get the info out and restore then copy it back in.

use ibye to backup, restore devce ten info.

use pkgbackup to backup info, restore ten use it to restore info.

or do all 3 if you have OCD.

iBye I don't trust to work for the reasons i stated in the OP,
pkgbackup I've considered, but it only backs up apps and not the SMS and Contact data.
And I cannot SSH into my iPhone because I get the error message "server closed unexpectedly" which I'm trying to find the solution for.

Any other ways to do what I'm trying to?

could use ifunbox instead of ssh, should work.

i have used ibye an i trust it, worked for me.

as for pkgbackup, it does offer backups for native apps: yfrog Photo : http://yfrog.com/hszpndscj Shared by Bondkt

I've tried using both ifunbox and iSpirit, they are basically the same thing. Neither of them lets me access the /private/var folder which contains the contacts and sms information (i've ssh'ed into my old iphone 3g so i know thats where it should be)

Also, I hate to sound like a broken record but I just tried a cracked version of pkgbackup - when I tried to backup my information the program would close on me right before it finished backing up at the "saving user repository(ies)" line, so thats no help.

I've literally been trying to troubleshoot this problem myself since january, but I just finally gave up and am posting it on a forum now.
