I currently have an iphone 3gs with a broken screen and since I already got myself an iphone 4, there is no point in repairing it. Hence, I decided to venture into a weekend project that is something of a life-long dream- to send something into space.

My idea is simply to attach the iphone to a weather balloon and send it to just under 30 km above the sea level. I know it's not space, but it is as close as one can get on a budget. Theoretically, the iphone should survive the journey, provided I have a good insulation and possibly a hand heater in the load - just to be on the safe side.

My problem is in how to retrieve the video from the iphone once it has landed. Although mobile me offers a solution to find the phone, It is likely to land in an inaccessible area or so far away from the launch site that it is not worth recovering it. So, I was wondering if there wasn't a way to remotely retrieve the video. I looked at veency, but I don't know if i could access the iphone over 3g/ edge? Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
