Refurbished vs Brand new
I have to send my 4 month old Iphone 4 to Apple this week, no Apple store near by, to be repaired. I was told if it can't be fixed it will be replaced with a refurbished Iphone. Suffice to say I was not happy to hear this as I paid full price for a brand new Iphone 4 and now I could possibly get back a refurbished Iphone. Should I be worried? Is there a big difference between a refurbished Iphone and a brand new Iphone?

Nope this is pretty standard. Just inspect it real good when you receive it. Don't settle for any blemishes.

I have no idea how well the refurbished iPhone 4's are, but I purchased a 3GS when it first came out, and in total went through 11 of those. I had a few of those that I had to send straight back. The Apple support people are nice, but they have protocol they have to follow. I got fed up with the problems after about the 6th and just straight up told them that I was not going to accept a refurbished one anymore, of course telling them of all the ones that I had gone through. Not only did they send me new ones for all my repairs from then on out, but they also waived the fee where they send you the iPhone and THEN you send your's in. (That is exclusively part of the Apple Care program, but if you state your frustration, with them, they might give it to you also.) WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT CALL AT&T FIRST ABOUT ANY IPHONE PROBLEMS, even if they are network problems. Apple support is much better about diagnosing the problem and if they can't they will talk to AT&T for you before transferring the call over to AT&T. Needless to say I was so satisfied with Apple's service, that I bought an iPhone 5. (and I am still on the first one haha) But if you do have recurring problems with your device MAKE SURE THEY KNOW IT and make sure that they know that you are frustrated, but do remember to stay chill, because the people on the other end of the call are just doing their job, a job I definitely wouldn't want.

My experience with getting replaced iDevices (and I have had several) is there are as new, not new, but as new. If there is a scuff or scratch on it, someone made a mistake. They replace anything that would make it look less then new.
They stand behind their products and also want to make sure they keep you, Mr. Consumer, are happy.
I believe you will have a good experience, think positive.Last edited by blkcadi; 04-25-2011 at 06:22 PM.
