son (4) got ahold of my iphone 4 verizon and gues what? yep in water! it now only works while plugged in. if i unplug it shuts off. do you think the battery shorted or is it the main board? dont have insurance cause bought it used! can i open it and clean it with electrical parts cleaner or alcohol?

If it only works while plugged in, it could be a battery problem. If you have someone that's got an iPhone 4 that is willing to let you swap the battery, try it. If that is the problem, there are plenty of battery replacements on ebay

if it was mainboard issue, the phone probably wouldnt work at all. Being that it only works while plugged in, it seems like a battery issue. There are tons of youtube tutorial about taking apart your iphone 4. Good luck with it!

You should of put the iPhone in a bag of rice and do not turn it on for 24 hrs.

Seem's like a battery issue for sure. I believe they go for about 25 bucks on ebay, you should go look around.
