    Default 3194 error

Recently my sister with an iPhone 4 running 4.3 forgot her password and the phone is now disabled. We have tried restoring the iPhone to 4.3 with no avail, encountering error 3194 when it's checks the update with iTunes.
I have read about changing the host file but we do not know what to do specifically.
    Can anyone help?

    In notepad open CWindows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

add 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com to the top of the list that has similar numbers/words. save it and close, try again

Lack of SHSHs or not utilizing them. Up it to 4.3.1 then?

    Good luck.

For future reference, you don't need to be jailbroken to save SHSHs. TinyUmbrella will save SHSHs on non jailbroken phones as well.

This is good bc if one day you upgrade to a firmware and it sucks for some reason (kind of like iOS 4 for iPod touch 2G) you can use those SHSHs to restore your firmware to a better performing one or less buggy previous firmware. Otherwise with no SHSHs you're always stuck on the latest firmware.
